The telecast of the NBA restart games could be slightly delayed to give way to censoring cusswords uttered by players during game time.
All stakeholders, including fans of the NBA, are anxiously waiting for the first tipoff of the 2019-2020 season NBA restart. All 22 NBA teams are in their quarantine zone to ensure safety upon entering the bubble. Some have already started individual training and will resume team training in a few weeks.
Last month, the NBA released a 103-page handbook for the protocols inside the bubble. It includes all the manner by which players and staff will carry their life out in the next three months. Despite the thoroughness of the guidelines, Adam Silver and his team failed to consider the emptiness of the stadiums during game time.
NBA restart games telecast may be delayed
Adam Silver said in an interview with the Times that the games to be aired nationally or locally might be slightly delayed. The main concern is the conversation involved in most sports around the world. Players are asked to be vocal on the court to maintain game flow for defense or offense.
Unfortunately, being vocal sometimes tend to go in the heads of players. Some go above and beyond just being vocal to try to get to the nerves of their opponents. This type of tactic is sometimes called ‘player-chatter’ on the floor. In other words, players talk trash to each other during games.
It’s a reality that Adam Silver will try to live with and adjust to. As such, he said,
“I think often players, they understand when they’re on the floor, they’re saying certain things to each other because it’s so loud in the arena, they know a lot of it is not being picked up. They may have to adapt their language a little bit knowing what they say will likely be picked up by microphones and in all seriousness, we may need to put a little bit of a delay.”
NBA restart effect on players
In reality, the cusswords could be just a minute detail that Adam Silver needs to accept. The bubble in the Disney World complex will have thousands of moving parts just to function. Players will be on their wits ends, considering that they’ll be away from their families for almost five months.
Also, the grueling schedule will sooner or later take its toll on the players’ physical and mental health. They have been forced to stay home for almost three months because of the virus. All of a sudden, they’re pulled out to play a crammed eight-game seeding period. Afterward, they’ll play a full postseason day in and day out.
