Zoe Kravitz will play the challenging role of Catwoman in the upcoming superhero caper, The Batman, which stars Robert Pattinson. The actress revealed that she swapped notes with Michelle Pfeiffer, who played the iconic character in 1992.
In October 2019, Warner Bros and DC Comics announced Kravitz’s casting as Selina Kyle/Catwoman, the Gotham City cat burglar, in The Batman. She is the fourth actress to play the role in the last 30 years, after Pfeiffer, Halle Berry in 2004 and Anne Hathaway in 2012.
Kravitz revealed via Total Magazine that she has consulted with Pfeiffer about the role in January. The two have known each other for quite some time since Kravitz worked with Pfeiffer’s husband, David E. Kelley, for Big Little Lies.
“I told her I was nervous but she was really encouraging,” Kravitz revealed.
The young actress said that she has so much respect for Pfeiffer’s take on Catwoman that she felt acknowledging her was important.
Excited for Kravitz
Following Kravitz’s casting, Pfeiffer said on Good Morning America that she was absolutely excited to watch her friend as Catwoman in The Batman. The actress gave one important advice regarding the supervillain’s costume.
“Make sure, while designing the costume, they consider how you’re going to go to the bathroom,” Pfeiffer said.
Incidentally, it’s the very same advice that former Batman star Christian Bale also told Pattinson. Bale told Variety that it’s going to be hard to feel like a superhero if they can’t go to the bathroom properly while wearing their costumes.
Working out during the lockdown
Meanwhile, Kravitz revealed that she worked out quite extensively during the lockdown with a trainer on the virtual platform. She was afraid that she might not fit back into her Catwoman costume when production resumed.
The workout turned out quite well for her during the quarantine because it gave her a routine and a structure, which was also good for her mental health.
Production for The Batman restarted in August but had to shut down days later after Pattinson tested positive for the virus. Warner Bros and DC plan to release the movie in theaters in October 2021. The movie was originally set for a summer release.
The Batman also stars Colin Farrell (Penguin), Paul Dano (Riddler) and Andy Serkis (Alfred). The movie will focus on the first two years of Bruce Wayne’s adventure as the Caped Crusader. The film will reportedly also include a TV series prequel with HBO Max with director Matt Reeves at the helm.
