The best indie games are kind of subjective. Different gamers have varying preferences. But for every game genre available, there are some that stand out.

1. Dead Cells – Action

Dead Cells is an action role-playing game created and published by Motion Twin. It is often described as a “roguevania,” which makes it a combination of roguelike and Metroidvania games.

This game involves puzzle mechanics when taking care of the “to-do list.” The player needs to complete the tasks through a series of puzzles that need to be solved.

4. Disco Elysium – Role-playing game

Disco Elysium is notable one of the most decorated indie games this year. This isometric open-world role-playing game developed by ZA/UM won three awards in the recently concluded BAFTA 2020.

The game follows the story of a detective who is solving a murder case. Instead of the typical RPG action, the game revolves on creating a unique character.

For fans of excellent writing and great narrative, this game is for you. Just consider its stunning visuals a bonus. Its story is what makes it one of the best RPGs created to date.

When first encountering Disco Elysium, the amnesia plot might seem cliche. However, the implementation is excellent on this one. It will not win any awards if it is half-baked right?
