Heads up to all action film fans. Vertical Entertainment is releasing the film The Big Ugly to the public soon. And to bring the hype up before its arrival, they have released a poster and trailer.
The promotional teasers exclusively first appeared via Screen Rant on Wednesday, June 10, ahead of its July release.
And as expected, the trailer gave its fans a sneak peek of Jones’ tough and vengeful character, as well as his image of being a formidable action movie star.
As revealed in the official synopsis of the film, The Big Ugly centers on the story of Neeyln, played by former professional soccer player Jones.
He is a loyal enforcer of his crime boss Harris back in London. What he does is that he looks after his boss’ problems and ensures that no one is able to disrupt his illicit business.
But all hell breaks loose after Neeyln suddenly finds his girlfriend Fiona missing and eventually dead.
Before that, Neeyln had gone up to the wild hills of West Virginia after Harris got a deal with an old friend, American oilman Preston.
In celebration of the closed deal, the trailer showed the characters enjoying their drinks. The party mood quickly went down the drain when Fiona went missing. It’s revealed that Fiona was last seen with Preston’s wayward son Junior.
“Lines are drawn between family and friends, but nothing will stop Neelyn from getting answers — and retribution,” as written in the synopsis.
The upcoming title is clearly under the sub-genre of revenge films. And even though several thinks such genre is past its prime, there are still some who find enjoyment in watching action stars fight for justice.
As noted in Deadline, Jones revealed that his late wife Tanya greatly supported the film and that she even picked “Exile” as the last song for it.
“It was more than a movie for us to make. (My late wife) Tanya was our staunch supporter on The Big Ugly. She said ‘go make the film.’ She pushed us,” Jones said.
He also said that movie watchers would see in the end that it’s dedicated in loving memory of Tanya Jones, who also got to see a finished Director’s Cut.
Aside from Jones, The Big Ugly also stars Nicholas Braun, Leven Rambin, Ron Perlman, Malcolm McDowell, and Lenora Crichlow. The movie is available on-demand, as of July 31.
