The Boys season 2 finally announced its premiere date. But fans will have to continue to be patient even after it drops as Amazon makes some changes with its release schedule.
Amazon Prime announced the premiere date of The Boys earlier than predicted. It was previously thought that they will drop the news in early July.
But it’s here now and fans are more than ever excited to watch their favorite revisionist superhero saga.
The release date
It turns out that The Boys season 2 isn’t coming out in July just like its predecessor. Instead, it will drop on the streaming platform on Friday, September 4.
The release date was announced during an hour-long live stream with the cast along with creator, writer, and director Eric Kripke.
Aside from the release date, they also unveiled more details including a change in the release strategy.
Amazon dropped the entire eight-episode season 1 on July 26, 2019, and it allowed fans to delightfully finish everything in one sitting.
It’s going to be different for season 2 because Amazon has decided to release the first three episodes only on the premiere date. After that, they will air the remaining five episodes on a weekly basis.
Eradicating the binge model for season 2 has caused some fans to be dismayed. But nonetheless, many are willing to wait in completing the entire season. It will take six weeks for the rollout to be complete.
Amazon’s decision to release weekly instead of dropping the entire season is unusual in this day of binge-watching. But they may still find success to it just like Disney’s The Mandalorian.
According to Comic Book, the space Western web series gained success despite the weekly release schedule. The superhero-genre series may get lucky and get the same success.
What to expect in season 2?
The show’s recent live stream also unveiled the first three minutes of season 2 and gave a two-minute first look of Stormfront.
For those who are not in the loop yet, Stormfront is the new member of the superhero group. The character is played by Aya Cash.
As revealed from the teaser, season 2 will have Vought CEO Stan Edgar (Giancarlo Esposito) arguing with the US Department of Defence for certain allowances.
Black Noir (Nathan Mitchell) will be in Syria killing several bodyguards and approaching a super-powered Syrian. But Black Noir is more powerful as the Syrian’s fiery explosive powers have no effect on him.
Here’s the official synopsis of season 2:
“The Boys is an irreverent take on what happens when superheroes, who are as popular as celebrities, as influential as politicians and as revered as Gods, abuse their superpowers rather than use them for good. It’s powerless against the super powerful as The Boys embark on a heroic quest to expose the truth about ‘The Seven’, and their formidable Vought backing.”
Stay tuned for more updates on The Boys season 2.
