The highly anticipated reunion between Butcher and Becca will finally happen in The Boys, and it’s going to be packed.
Teasers from Amazon Prime aren’t keeping this a secret any longer. Karl Urban’s character is going to have his moment with Shantel VanSanten’s Becca, antagonizing Homelander (Anthony Starr). The Boys season 2 episode 4 will be explosive.
Speaking with TV Line, VanSanten treats the episode as her character’s biggest moment to date.
“All of the things that you wanted to convey on your face and say and you couldn’t, and there’s a lot,” the actress said. “I was so excited to read [the script] as a fan of the show, to finally see them reuniting and what was going to happen and what would be said and not be said.”
An early reunion
VanSanten said that she wasn’t expecting Butcher and Becca to reunite, let alone see each other again, so early into the stories. She told TV Line that she had so many questions about these two star-crossed lovers when she found out about what’s going to happen to them.
The actress was asked to return to The Boys towards the end of the first season. She naively asked how that’s going to happen since she knew her character died.
VanSanten filmed mostly flashbacks scenes for the first season. Showrunner Eric Kripke, however, assured her that Becca’s storyline is just starting to get interesting.
The actress said that Butcher and Becca have so much love for each other, and this season will delve on how they’ll find their way back together again. However, it is a complicated situation because of the presence of Ryan, the other “human life” in Becca’s life in the years since their separation.

Butcher’s relationship with Ryan
Of course, that human life is more like a “superhuman life” as Becca’s son, Ryan, is a supe. According to Urban, the fact that Ryan is Homelander’s son makes it difficult for his character to process. The actor said in an interview with Comicbook that fans should not expect Butcher to immediately change how he feels just because Becca loves her son.
“You have to know that Billy Butcher has a very clear, specific view of supes,” the actor said. So, Butcher’s prejudice against the supes, is “part of the fabric of the character” and he cannot change his perception quickly, especially not with Ryan.
The Boys season 2 episode 4, dropped on Amazon on Friday, Sept. 11.
