‘The Boys’ season 2: Release date and all the details revealed so far

The Boys season 2 is one of the most anticipated series in Amazon Prime Video. It is expected to arrive sometime this year.

According to reports, The Boys was already given the green light to proceed with season 2 even before it debuted on Amazon Prime.

That’s how confident the streaming platform is with the show. And true enough, the series based on the comics with the same title became one of the platform’s most successful shows to date.

Release date

There is no exact date yet on when The Boys season 2 will return to the subscription service. But all clues lead to a mid-2020 release.

The first season was released on July 26, 2019, with a total of eight episodes. There’s a big probability that the sophomore run will also drop on the same month as the first.

Show creator Erik Kripke already hinted that fact during the 2019 Comic-Con International: San Diego. He said in interviews that fans can expect to see the second season at “about the same time next year.”

This could mean that season 2 will come around July 2020. More information regarding the show was supposed to be divulged in the PaleyFest TV festival in March 2020. However, it was canceled due to the pandemic.

Will it be delayed?

None of the people involved in the show has spoken about the delay of the season 2. But reports reveal that the web series was able to wrap up filming even before 2019 ended.

Actor Karl Urban once posted some photos connected to their final shooting on his Instagram account. It was a confirmation that they had finished filming season 2 in November 2019.

This could mean that the series is still on track and they may still be able to release it despite the global health crisis.

What will happen in season 2?

A lot of twists and turns are expected to show in the second run. Urban is expected to reprise his role as Billy Butcher along with the other cast. The survivors in the first season include Jack Quaid as Hughie, Tomer Kapon as Frenchis, Laz Alonso as Mother’s Milk and Karen Fukuhara as The Female.

Giancarlo Esposito is also expected to reappear after guesting in the finale as Vought CEO, Mr. Edgar.

Moreover, a character confirmed to appear in season 2 is the Black Noir. It was announced during the C2E2 Expo. “You’re going to love what’s coming up for Black Noir. It’s so good,” Karl Urban said at a panel.
