An upcoming episode of The Boys season 2 will feature a reunion between two Lord of the Rings actors. Karl Urban’s character, Billy Butcher, will come face-to-face with his dad, Sam, who will be played by John Noble.
The Boys season 2, episode 7, titled “Butcher, Baker, Candlestick Maker” and dropping on Amazon Friday, Oct. 2, is going to be a two-fold reunion. First, Billy will get to see his father after a long time. Second, it’s Urban and Noble working together again after almost 20 years.
Fans of the Lord of the Rings know that the actor and Urban were also co-stars on the highly-acclaimed 2003 LOTR movie Return of the King. Noble played Denethori, the steward of Gondor, while Urban was cast as Eomer, the leader of the Riders of Rohan.
In a post on Instagram, Urban shared a photo of his reunion with his co-star.
“Loved working with John,” Urban wrote in the caption. “His Sam Butcher is a brutal force of nature!
Butcher, Baker, Candlestick Maker episode synopsis
According to Comic Book Movie, the title of The Boys season 2, episode 7, is based on a six-issue graphic novel miniseries released separately from the original source. Creators Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson wrote a spinoff story about Butcher returning home because his dad actually died.
It’s unclear if this will be the same storyline for the upcoming episode since the Amazon series has taken creative liberties to change some of the plots from the comics. However, the synopsis hints that Sam might still be alive in the TV show and could be the “unlikely source” for the group’s plan to fight Vought.
The Boys season 2, episode 7, is the penultimate episode, while the season finale will air next Friday, Oct. 9. Amazon has renewed the superhero drama for a third season.
Season 3 production details
While viewers will still find out how season 2 ends, showrunner Eric Kripke and the writers are already hard at work for the next season. Safety protocols for Hollywood productions are also changing and improving, which means that the cast and crew might be ready for work in the first half of 2021.
The Boys season 3 will bring in a new character in Soldier Boy, who will be played by Jensen Ackles. His character is the first superhero, which has been hinted and talked about in the previous episodes.
Kripke also wants Jeffrey Dean Morgan to board the third season. The showrunner confirmed there are two roles waiting for The Walking Dead star. However, they need to work out his schedule since he’s filming in Atlanta while the set of The Boys is in Vancouver.
