The Boys are definitely coming back for season 3 at Amazon Prime! Executive producer Seth Rogen confirmed the good news during Comic-Con online, but he also said that filming could be “sometime this decade” due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Eric Kripke, however, was more optimistic than Rogen. Speaking in the same virtual meet, The Boys showrunner said that they want to start filming in early 2021.
“But that’s up to a microscopic virus,” Kripke said. “The writers and I are hard at work in the (virtual) writer’s room and we’re sad to say, the world has given us way too much material.”
The producers’ announcement, however, was still widely received by fans who have been waiting for the release of The Boys season 2. The show is all set to launch new episodes on the streaming platform on Sept. 4, with the first three episodes. Then, succeeding episodes will drop every Friday until Oct. 9.

More intense and more insane
Production for The Boys season 2 has been shrouded in secrecy to prevent spoilers from leaking. Amazon’s marketing billed the upcoming show as “more intense and more insane” than the first season.
The official synopsis introduces a new member of The Seven in Stormfront (Aya Cash). Describe as a social media savvy star, Stormfront has other plans for her identity.
Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, Cash said that her character is like a nuclear bomb. She is a feminist, but she wants Vought to get behind the original idea of superheroes.
Conflict among The Seven will continue, especially after Homelander (Antony Starr) plans to take full control of the operation. Meanwhile, Hughie (Jack Quaid), Frenchie (Tomer Capon), Mother’s Milk (Laz Alonso), and Kimiko (Karen Fukuhara) are keeping a low profile and staying under the radar from The Seven, while Butcher (Karl Urban) is missing in action.
Spicing things up with an after-show
Rogen and Kripke also announced that The Boys will get an after-show with Aisha Tyler as host. Prime Rewind: Inside The Boys will begin its run on Aug. 28 with a special rundown of the first season. It will subsequently air every week after the episodes are out.
Tyler describes the superhero series as the “smartest, most irreverent, unapologetically badass shows” in a streaming platform. She said that she has been a fan from day one, and she’s excited about digging into the second season episodes with the show’s followers.
The Boys is based on the comic series from Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson. The comics were released from 2008 to 2012.
