Jack Quaid has a TV series hit to his name in Amazon’s The Boys. The actor will soon be part of another popular production as he signed on to the cast of Scream 5.
The son of Meg Ryan and Dennis Quaid has the acting genes in his blood, but he’s slowly making a name for himself in Hollywood. After appearing in several films and TV shows, the 28-year-old star finally lands a leading role in the massive Scream franchise.
Quaid is reportedly on top of the cast list of the upcoming slasher movie and will presumably be a key figure in the relaunch. He’ll join the original stars, David Arquette (as Dewey Riley) and Courteney Cox (as Gale Weathers), while Neve Campbell (as Sidney Prescott) is still negotiating her return to the franchise.
Scream 5 cast, plot, and release date
“I have been approached about it,” Campbell said in an interview with Five Favorite Films about her Scream 5 appearance. “The timing’s a bit challenging because of COVID. You know, we only started the conversation maybe a month and a half ago, so it’s going to take some time to figure out how it’s all going to work out.”
Director Wes Craven created the Scream franchise, but he passed away in 2015. Filmmakers Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett are taking over his director’s chair with a target January 2022 release.
Aside from Quaid, Jenna Ortega, and Melissa Barrera are also some of the new faces of this horror flick. According to Deadline, work on the set in Wilmington, North Carolina, is expected to begin in the last quarter of 2020.
Originally, Scream 5’s premiere was intended for 2021, in time for the first movie’s 25th anniversary. The pandemic, however, pushed back this plan.
Filming conflict with The Boys?
Meanwhile, The Boys season 2’s first three episodes dropped on the Amazon streaming platform on Friday, Sept. 4. Quaid’s Hughie is re-teaming with his TV ex-girlfriend, Erin Moriarty’s Annie/Starlight. However, their challenge is greater this season since they are working to take down Vought from different places.
“It’s like a very long post-breakup partnership, it’s really interesting,” Quaid said of their storyline this season in an interview with Coming Soon.
“They have to kind of get over that at an accelerated pace find a way to work together in season two,” Moriarty shared. “The dynamic was interesting to explore because you can’t shut feelings off, so for me trying to play Annie in season two was a matter of mixing the resentment and heartbreak with residual love for him.”
The Boys showrunner Eric Kripke said that the third season would start filming in January 2021. A plan has been in place to shoot two episodes back-to-back to lessen their risk of COVID-19 transmission. The schedule will allow Quaid to also work on Scream 5.
