‘Horizon Forbidden West’ looks beautiful and stunning!
Guerilla’s narrative director shared many details during the live stream of the State of Play reveal from the awaited title.
Ben McCaw explained the game’s atmosphere and what to expect this time on the PlayStation’s blog.
The 14-minute clip features a “never-before-seen gameplay footage captured directly on the PlayStation 5 console”.
Horizon Forbidden West will continue six months after the events of its predecessor, Zero Dawn.
Aloy, now being the machine hunter, has traveled west. She is there to “investigate a mysterious and deadly blight.”
The video shows her going through “uncharted lands” while meeting new tribes and encountering deadly machines.
“Together with old friends and new companions, she must brave this dangerous frontier to find the answers she needs to save life on Earth.”
In the recently revealed footage, Aloy is seen sending her loyal friend Erend “into the remains of San Francisco to recover an important artifact.”
However, he is captured by a rebel faction of the Tenakth tribe. They are “vicious fighters who have somehow acquired the power to override machines.” Aloy then rescues him while fighting the enemies and machines who look more like wild beasts.
The 14-minute gameplay also showed new tools that will help the protagonist in accomplishing challenging tasks. The Pullcaster enables rapid climbing while the Shieldwing helps in descending “from great heights.”
The Diving Mask is there to explore the vast underwater area.
The Focus is also equipped with extra options. It shows areas that can allow free-climbing in the open-world map of Horizon Forbidden West. Plus, it also gives Aloy the ability to override machines “for mounts or combat.”

New upgrades in combat sequences
The sequel will also put a lot of emphasis on tactics and choice. Players will find a wide variety of multiple weapons. The beloved Spear of Aloy, as always, is excellent for close combat while giving several new sets of combos as well.
Then there are bows having specialized ammo types that strip armor off machines. It exposes their weak spots. Players can also fire adhesive grenades from slingshots, thus momentarily “stalling foes.”
All upgrades for weapons will be available at a workbench.
However, Aloy won’t deal with just human enemies in Horizon Forbidden West. The game also features a fresh “selection of deadly machines.” They include Sunwings in the sky, Clawstriders, and Tremortusks on land, Snapmaws, and Burrowers in the water.
And that’s just scratching the surface of the vast open-world of the mesmerizing title from Guerilla.
Horizon Forbidden West is yet to receive a release date. It will be arriving as an exclusive for PS5 and PS4.
