The Haunting of Hill House has gained immense popularity after it aired on Netflix as an original series. Although the streaming giant did not reveal figures regarding its total viewers, the show has certainly raked loyal followers.
Above all, it has impressed supernatural fans and has garnered positive acclaims from critics worldwide.
Owing to the series’ success, the streaming service Netflix decided to renew the show for a second season. The upcoming installment is entitled The Haunting of Bly Manor. The show’s official Twitter account confirmed this news, stating:
“You guessed it. The HAUNTING OF BLY MANOR, a new chapter in the Haunting series based on the works of Henry James, is coming in 2020.”
Production works for the anthology horror series The Haunting of Bly Manor started since September 30, 2019. Consequently, it wrapped up filming on Feb. 21. Mike Flanagan confirmed this in a tweet that says:
“That’s a wrap on THE HAUNTING OF BLY MANOR. Congratulations to the cast and crew, the familiar faces and the new, and congratulations to the filmmakers who came on board to make this season their own.”
The Haunting of Bly Manor was based on Henry James’ The Turn of The Screw. Thus, the show is expected to follow the same plot of the novel, which reads:
“On a Christmas Eve night during a gathering of friends, ghost stories are being shared. One of the guests, Douglas, begins to tell the tale of two children (Flora and Miles) and his sister’s governess. A handsome bachelor hired the governess to take care of his niece and nephew at his country home in Bly. When strange events transpire on within the manor and the grounds the governess soon becomes convinced the estate is haunted.”
Mike Flanagan has made a Twitter thread that contains all of the casting announcements for the forthcoming series. According to the director, Henry Thomas and Kate Siegel will return for the second season in as-of-yet undisclosed roles.
Moreover, Catherine Parker, T’nia Miller, Rahul Kohli, and Amelia Eve will join the cast as fresh faces. Above all, Flanagan announced the stars who will be the lead cast of the show. He tweeted:
“If you know THE TURN OF THE SCREW, you know how critical the characters of Miles and Flora are. I’m so grateful that we found BENJAMIN AINSWORTH and AMELIE SMITH, who will be amazing in these crucial roles.”
As of press time, Netflix has not yet disclosed the specific release date of The Haunting of Bly Manor. The only certain thing is it will premiere this year, as per the previous announcement.
