The Kissing Booth 2 is about to drop on Netflix and its stars are hinting that the sequel is better than the first movie installation.
The Kissing Booth 2 was confirmed to be happening last May 2019, a year after its first movie, The Kissing Booth, became an absolute Netflix hit in 2018.
The 2018 Netflix rom-com became wildly popular. A month after its release, the Netflix chief content officer, Ted Sarandos, told Vulture that The Kissing Booth was “one of the most-watched movies in the country, and maybe in the world.”
IMDb cites that the movie won the 2019 Kid’s Choice Award and was nominated as “Favorite Movie” for the Blimp award. With all that praises and ratings, the stars of the movie told The Hollywood Reporter that the second movie installment will be better.
The Kissing Booth 2 building on the success of its predecessor
Speaking to THR exclusively, Joey King who plays the role of Elle, expresses, “This sequel, if I may say so myself, I think is better than the first movie.”
King, who also is an executive producer of the film franchise, goes on to say that in conceptualizing the second movie, they thought of giving their avid fans “something to remember.”
Although, this sounded like the end for The Kissing Booth film franchise. Should it be, though, the impact of the second movie might change the minds of its creators.
As for The Kissing Booth 2, King says:
“[…] something that is even bigger and better than the movie that they fell in love with initially, something that exceeded all expectations and still remained true to the absolute fun, loving, ridiculously silly nature of the first movie. And I just think that, not to toot our own horn, but I kind of think that we might have hit it out of the park or whatever.”
Chloe and Marco—the newcomers
As seen in the trailer, there are two new characters added in the cast that’ll spark issues in Elle and Noah’s relation. Marco (played by Taylor Perez), the newbie high school hottie, and Chloe (played by Maisie Richardson-Sellers), the Harvard babe.
Speaking about their roles, Richardson-Sellers describes Chloe as very intelligent, dynamic, and confident. Elle would grow jealous of Noah and Chloe’s formed college friendship, most especially when it’s developing from thousands of miles away from her.
Meanwhile, Perez’s character will be stirring up Elle’s emotions. Accordingly, she might enter a phase where she’ll doubt her feelings for Noah. “[…]I think she starts questioning herself. Does she love Noah? Does she like Marco? What’s her future going to be?” says Perez.
The Kissing Booth 2 is set to arrive on Netflix this Friday, July 24.
