The Lakers steal Game 2 with a buzzer beater from Anthony Davis

Anthony Davis saves the Lakers in Game 2 of the NBA Western Conference Finals despite the efforts of Nikola Jokic in the clutch.

The Denver was up for a fight in their next game against the Los Angeles Lakers as LeBron James was able to score 20 of his 26 points in the first half to give the team a lead boost.

In addition, Anthony Davis ended up with 31 points and a cold-blooded buzzer-beater to put the Lakers up 2-0.

AD explained after the game-winning shot that he also didn’t want the Lakers to lose because they were wearing the black mamba jerseys to honor Kobe Bryant.

Turnovers hurt both teams especially the Lakers

While both teams took care of the ball in the previous game, Game 2 had a lot of turnovers compared to Game 1.

With PJ Dozier given more minutes off the bench for the Nuggets, it looks like they also found a way to claw back into the game through his defense.

Nikola Jokic and the rest of the Nuggets squad were able to climb back from a double-digit lead in the second half despite the King’s rally in the first half.

The Joker also scored a lot of crucial baskets to keep the Nuggets hopes alive to snatch Game 2 but it was not enough. Jokic ended up with 30 points, 9 assists, and 4 steals in a disappointing loss while Jamal Murray had 25 points.

A battle of bench depth

The Los Angeles Lakers had a great offensive run for most of the players. Alex Caruso was able to score 9 points off the bench while being active on defense with 2 steals and 1 block.

Kyle Kuzma disappeared in Game 2 scoring only 8 points in his 21 minutes of playtime off the bench and he also had 4 turnovers next to Rondo and James who had 5 and 6 respectively.

As for the Nuggets, Michael Porter Jr. finally showed up as he was efficient in shooting the ball as he scored 15 points off the bench and Monte Morris had 9 points in 13 minutes of playtime.

In this game, the Nuggets bench outscored the Lakers bench 32-23.

Could PJ Dozier become a potential defensive stopper?

If the Denver Nuggets want to survive this series against the Lakers, the bench really needs to step up. Nuggets fans should be proud of the way Mike Malone has played around with the rotation lately.

A surprising x-factor for Game 2 was the contributions of PJ Dozier, who played extended minutes off the bench. He was efficient on defense in his 14 minutes of play as he recorded a block and steal.

In addition, he was able to draw some fouls as well but wasn’t able to convert his free throws as he only shot 1 out of 5 from the line.

NBA fans shall see if the duo of Anthony Davis and LeBron James can close out on Nikola Jokic and Jamal Murray to pressure them on a series sweep.

However, the Lakers should not underestimate this underdog Nuggets squad as they were able to recover from two consecutive 3-1 leads from their previous opponents.
