Sony releases a limited edition PlayStation 4 Pro bundle in line with the upcoming release of Naughty Dog’s The Last of Us 2. The console features a creatively engraved tattoo of Ellie.
The Last of Us 2 is a month away before its highly-anticipated release, and Sony is commemorating that moment with a special edition PlayStation 4 console that’ll be launched alongside the game title.
The official announcement came with an explanation as to why the designers chose Ellie’s new tattoo sleeve as the theme for the upcoming console bundle. Apparently, the tattoo has become an iconic symbol of the TLOU franchise.
TLOU 2-themed PS4 to honor fans’ passion
Naughty Dog’s Art Director, John Sweeney, gave an emotional insight into the new PS4 design. He says that the final output of the whole bundle felt “really special,” not only to them—the creative minds behind the TLOU franchise, but most especially to its most avid fans and their passion for the game.
The art director highlights the unexpected and overwhelming feedback they got from the fans about the TLOU 2 female protagonist’s new tattoo. They even reportedly saw “real-life versions” of the said tattoo on social media, since the release of teaser ads for The Last of Us Part 2.
Sweeney further discussed their decision to go with Ellie’s moth and fern tattoo sleeve:
“When the opportunity arose to create a custom PS4 Pro for The Last of Us Part II, I worked with our graphic designer at the time, Angel Garcia, and we considered a few different ideas, but we kept coming back to Ellie’s tattoo. By that point, it had become a symbol of the game and for the community–much like the Firefly logo in the first game. It was the clear choice, but we wondered: what if it could be engraved? It hadn’t been done before, so we weren’t sure it was even possible, but thanks to the incredible efforts of the teams at PlayStation, we found a way.”
The Last of Us 2 PS4 Pro bundle and its prices
The limited-edition TLOU 2 Sony release includes a PS4 Pro console with a controller, a wireless headset, and a Seagate 2TB hard drive.
The console has a matte black finish design with Ellie’s moth and fern tattoo engraved on it. The controller and the wireless headphones also embody the same design element, with the title of the game placed on the touchpad, and on one of the outer sides of the headset.
