Players should enjoy the story in The Last of Us 2 when it launches, but in order for them to do so, they must endure Ellie’s survival first. In the game’s difficulty, letting Ellie survive is easier said than done.
Combat remains to be a part of the gameplay loop in The Last of Us 2. Since Ellie will be at the forefront of the sequel, players will need to change their approach to as compared when they were playing as Joel. Here are a few tips to help players out during the game’s intense combat mechanics.
Try to avoid Clickers
Clickers return in the game, and they are arguably one of the worst enemies to face. Not only are they fast, but they are also powerful and capable of killing Ellie in one blow. Since they are blind, however, Ellie can sneak past them as long as they don’t make any sound.
Like in the first game, it’s best to avoid Clicker encounters. When unavoidable, the best way to take them out is by going behind them and using a shiv.
Humans are dangerous
Humans are just as if not more dangerous than the infected. There are two main factions in the game, which are the Washington Liberation Front and the Seraphites.
Members of these two warring factions have their own traits. The WLF are equipped with heavy weapons while the Seraphites are equipped with melee weapons and bows. The Seraphites also call their allies via whistling. Before charging in, players should scout ahead first.
Stealth is the key
The reviews for The Last of Us 2 say that stealth is a big part of the game. Since Ellie isn’t as overpowering as Joel, it’s best for her to stay in the shadows to survive. That being said, players should find every opportunity to hide and go for stealth kills instead of facing foes head-on. This can also save them some resources along the way.
Watch out for dogs
Some enemies will bring dogs along with them. Dogs can sniff out Ellie, so stealth will be harder with them around. As such, players should either kill or avoid the dogs when possible.
The Last of Us 2 launches on June 19 for the PlayStation 4. Current reviews of the game are great so far, and it seems like it’s already a great contender for Game of the Year. There are only a few more days to wait for Ellie to continue her journey in post-apocalyptic America.
