Based on the teaser trailer for The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild 2, the next villain for Link and Zelda is an ancient being discovered under Hyrule castle. The popular theory is that this could be Ganondorf. Here’s everything we know about the sequel’s potential villain.
Ganondorf is the rival of Link, who has been in almost every Legend of Zelda game. While his appearance differs from time to time, Ganondorf is always depicted as a purely evil Gerudo bent on destroying Hyrule. Having him serve as the next villain of the game is possible, but there is a problem with regards to the game’s lore.
Ganondorf and Ganon are two completely different entities. Ganondorf is basically a weaker version of Ganon. In Ocarina of Time, Ganondorf transforms into Ganon during the last battle. This is common in the series. When push comes to shove, Ganondorf changes into his better and more menacing beast form.
Here’s where the problem lies. In The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild, players are already facing off against Ganon. In the end, it was beaten by Link. This basically means that Ganondorf is done with as well, and he should not appear in The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild 2.
As we’ve seen from the teaser trailer, Zelda and Link explore what seems to be an underground system of caves in Hyrule Castle. There, they discover an ancient corpse that suddenly springs to life.
Although we don’t know any story details yet, there are many speculations that the next game will feature time travel. If this is indeed the case, then there’s a chance that players will be facing off against Ganondorf in a different timeline.
Alternatively, he could be revived by some ancient power in the sequel. Regardless of how he returns, fans want Ganondorf to be the next villain because, as compared to Ganon, he brings much more personality to the game.
The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild 2 is quite possibly the most anticipated game on the Switch. Hopefully, we get to hear more details about it soon.
