Star Wars fans are anticipating the first teaser for The Mandalorian season 2, and it could drop before the end of August.
Earlier, there was some buzz about the release of the much-awaited The Mandalorian season 2 trailer during the NBA playoffs. Fans speculated that it would happen during Game 2 or Game 3 between the Portland Trail Blazers and the Los Angeles Lakers.
However, the weekend came, and no trailer dropped. Speculations were rife because Disney had plans to host the Star Wars Celebration for Aug. 18 to 21. The studio canceled the event due to the pandemic.
The second season wrapped days before lockdown
Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy revealed that production for The Mandalorian season 2 wrapped up five days before the world went into lockdown.
Speaking with The Wrap, the executive said that the show was lucky because no time was lost. They did, however, had to figure some of the work-from-home logistics during post-production.
“Even though we wondered to what extent people could work remotely, our IT department and ILM had everybody up and running within a week, working from home and continuing to work in the cutting room and on visual effects shots,” Kennedy said. “It was pretty staggering how quickly they got everybody up and running.”
The Mandalorian creator Jon Favreau was also confident that the technical innovations adapted on the set would help with the third season production. The set is ready to introduce coronavirus safety protocols in case the pandemic will still impact the next season’s filming.
Lucasfilm banking on season 2
However, the focus, for now, is The Mandalorian season 2. Tentatively, the show could drop in the Disney+ platform this October, the same as last year’s schedule.
Lucasfilm is banking on this series because the studio does not have any Star Wars movies for release this year. Kennedy herself admitted that this show and the other Star Wars live-action shows in development are the priorities.
