It’s been just a few days since it was released, but developer Bloober Team’s The Medium has already recovered its entire production cost.
According to Games Industry, The Medium launched last week on January 28, 2021. And under a week, it has recovered the overall production and marketing cost that went into its making. That’s impressive and good news for the developer Bloober Team.
The developer shared the news with Polish media recently.
The Medium is turning out good!
Talking about the latest Bloober Team title, then it’s a psychological horror game. Right now, it’s getting a lot of praise as well as good sales figures. And that’s the reason why it has managed to recoup the entire production and marketing cost in under a week. It tells the story of Marianne, a Medium who can travel into the realm of spirit. The Medium is a single-player campaign-based video game.
Since the protagonist can interact with both realms, it helps her solve the gameplay puzzles in a third-person perspective. The Medium was first announced in 2020 with a cinematic gameplay reveal trailer. It has a good rating on the primary review portal Metacritic (76 percent) as of writing.
Last year, developer Bloober Team’s CEO told his ambitions in a media interaction that they want to become “the Blumhouse of the games industry.”
Upcoming video games of 2021
This year is full of unique and adventurous titles, arriving for the next few months’ consoles. While IO Interactive’s Hitman 3 is available, more games are coming in the future. Some of the top names are God of War: Ragnarok, Horizon Forbidden West, Resident Evil Village, Halo Infinite, Far Cry 6, and Gotham Knights.
But that’s not all! The list gets extended further with the likes of Death loop, Dying Light 2, Back 4 Blood, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, Returnal, GhostWire: Tokyo, Psychonauts 2, and Little Nightmares 2. Then there’s Monster Hunter Rise, Gran Turismo 7, Humankind, Kena: Bridge of Spirits, Stray, New World, Riders Republic, and Balan Wonderworld.
Some new announcement trailers last week also revealed a new post-apocalyptic title, The Day Before. The themes of zombies and horror inspire it. And another futuristic game in the form of Glitchpunk is arriving soon! Although it’s not related to Cyberpunk 2077 in any way, the main plot revolves around technology and humanity only. The initial gameplay demo clip has been quite impressive. It will be interesting to see whether it manages to gain many players or not upon its eventual arrival.
Coming back to The Medium, it’s now available for PC, Xbox Series X|S. Players can also get it through Microsoft’s Xbox Game Pass subscription service.
