The Mighty Ducks reboot on Disney+ has found a new director. Anya Adams, who helmed The Good Place, will be working on the series for multiple episodes.
Production for The Mighty Ducks reboot is reportedly set to resume on Aug. 31 in Vancouver. The series was already filming before the pandemic lockdown and will expectedly end principal photography by the middle of December.
According to The DisInsider, Adams will direct several episodes of the series starring Emilio Esteves and Lauren Graham. The director also worked on shows like Black-ish, Fresh Off the Boat and Netflix’s GLOW.
Reboot plot details and cast
Esteves is reprising his role from the 1992 movie as Coach Gordon Bombay. The reboot will take place in present-day Minnesota, where the young Mighty Ducks team has become a competitive powerhouse.
The new story will revolve around a 12-year-old boy, Evan (Brady Noon), who gets cut from the hockey team without any reason. With the help of his mother, Alex (Graham), Evan sets out to start a new group. To win this competitive game, however, they need the help and experience of Coach Bombay. The coach was the man responsible for turning an underdog team into a force on the ice.
Steve Brill, who wrote the first movie and its sequels, is also the co-creator and writer of the series. Josh Goldsmith and Cathy Yuspa are serving as showrunners for this 10-episode outing.
“After 25 years, I am delighted to lace up my skates, put on Coach Bombay’s jacket, and return to play the iconic character for this new chapter in The Mighty Ducks franchise,” Estevez said following the announcement of his return. ” I am thrilled to return to my old stomping grounds with my friends at Disney and Steve Brill, the original creator of the franchise, to join them on their exciting new platform, Disney+.”
Also joining the reboot are several up-and-coming stars: Kiefer O’Reilly, Swayam Bhatia, Taegen Burns, De’Jon Watts, Bella Higginbotham, and Maxwell Simkins.

Joshua Jackson cameo?
Joshua Jackson was but a young and rising actor when he got the role of Charlie in the original movie. Disney+, however, hasn’t confirmed if the actor will have a cameo in the series.
After his breakout role, Jackson gained more popularity as a cast member on Dawson’s Creek with Katie Holmes and James Van Der Beek. Jackson recently welcomed his first baby with wife Jodie Turner-Smith via home birth in Malibu.
Disney+ has yet to set the release date for The Mighty Ducks reboot. Given the production timeline, however, the show will likely arrive on the streaming platform in the second half of 2021.
