‘The Morning Show’ season 2 rewritten to add global pandemic storyline

Share

Scripts to The Morning Show on AppleTV+ are getting some rewrites to include a storyline reflecting the scale of a global pandemic, actor Mark Duplass said.

Speaking with Deadline, Duplass revealed that they finished filming two episodes of The Morning Show season 2 before the coronavirus shutdown orders. He revealed that the scribes are doing some rewrites to the scripts to include a “larger, global phenomenon” that will impact the media industry in the series, similar to the pandemic.

The actor, however, said that it’s all he knows and he won’t share any more details. Just like in the first season, the plot lines, guest appearances, and other potential spoilers are closely guarded.

On a personal note, Duplass shared that he’s excited about the trajectory of his character, Chip, in the second season. Viewers will recall that Chip lost his job in the season 1 finale for his complicity in the sexual harassment incidents happening in his studio. However, the actor is still not sure when filming will resume so, he is spending his downtime creating videos on YouTube with his brother, Jay Duplass.

Emmy upset over Reese Witherspoon snub

On July 28, The Morning Show season 2 received a few nominations from the Emmy Awards, including an Outstanding Lead Actress nomination for Jennifer Aniston. Duplass said, however, that many of his co-stars should have been nominated, especially Reese Witherspoon.

Witherspoon is also the co-lead star of the series as Bradly Jackson. She is the executive producer who calls the shots behind the scenes as well.

Despite the Emmy acting snub, Witherspoon is still thrilled to receive a total of 18 nominations for her production outfit, Hello Sunshine. Apart from The Morning Show, Hello Sunshine also produced Little Fires Everywhere on Hulu, and Big Little Lies on HBO.

Jennifer Aniston’s Emmy nomination is special

Meanwhile, Aniston’s nomination for Best Actress as Alex Levy in The Morning Show is quite special as it comes 11 years after she was last nominated for an Emmy award.

In 2009, Aniston earned a nomination for her guest appearance on 30 Rock. During her time on Friends, the famous TV star was always up for a nomination. She won the Best Supporting Actress plum in 2002.

In a post on Instagram, Aniston thanked the Emmy body for the acknowledgment of The Morning Show.

“This team worked so, so hard to make the best show we possibly could, and I am truly honored to be a part of it,” Aniston wrote. “Now, I’m just gonna have to figure out what MASK I’M GONNA WEAR!!”

The Morning Show season 1 is still streaming on AppleTV+.
