Owing to the first success of the show, Steve Carell might return once more for theThe Morning Show series.
After the huge success of the first season, it looks like Apple TV+ wants Steve Carell to come back for The Morning Show season 2. Reports say that talks with the 40 Year Old Virgin actor are currently held to ensure his return.
Carell played morning news anchor Mitch Kessler, who got fired after sexual misconduct allegations against him were revealed. His co-anchor Alex Levy (Jennifer Aniston) had to deal with the repercussions of his firing. This included the entrance of inexperienced broadcaster Bradley Jackson (Reese Witherspoon).
Who is returning to The Morning Show season 2?
Whether or not Steve Carell returns, The Morning Show season 2 still has a lot of star power behind it.
So far, only Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon (also executive producers) are confirmed to return. Fan favorites Mark Duplass and Billy Crudup might have a good chance of coming back as well.
According to reports, with regard to the criticism the show received in tackling gender and power struggles in the workplace, Jennifer Aniston said this:
It was important to get inside the head of a gentle, charismatic narcissist — to be at the hand of the abuse of power and not actually know it.
Jennifer Aniston, Apple TV+ enters Emmy race
The Morning Show season 2 could come a few months after a potential Jennifer Aniston win in the Emmys. Despite the first season’s lukewarm reception among critics, Aniston received universal acclaim for her performance on the show.
As of the moment, it looks like it will be a showdown between Aniston and Olivia Colman of The Crown season 3. The two actresses duked it out in the winter television awards. Aniston eventually took home the SAG and Colman winning the Golden Globe.
Reese Witherspoon is also in the running for the Lead Actress in a Drama category. However, she has multiple shows for Emmy consideration since she submitted in the category for Big Little Lies season 2. Additionally, she has a good chance to land a Lead Actress in a Miniseries nod for Little Fires Everywhere.
Steve Carell could also be a huge factor in the Emmy race in September. If Apple TV+ plays their cards right, he could get a Supporting Actor in a Drama Series nomination.
Steve Carell to star in Space Force
Meanwhile, Steve Carell is set to star in the Netflix spoof series Space Force. He also co-created the show with star producer Greg Daniels.
The Netflix series promises to be a new kind of workplace comedy because of its science fiction elements. Accordingly, John Malkovich, Lisa Kudrow, and Jimmy O. Yang will also star in the show.
Space Force will serve as Carell’s first comedy series since he left The Office. Coincidentally, Netflix will release the show on May 29, a day before the Emmy Awards cutoff.
