The most used ‘Baldur’s Gate 3’ character is the boring one

Baldur’s Gate 3 developer Larian Studios dropped a hotfix post today. Together with the update, Larian also ribbed players for the most generic character ever.

Baldur’s Gate 3 released a hotfix that corrects crashes, together with workarounds. The most notable detail of their update, however, is a picture of the character creation screen.

Larian claims that the analytics show the design was the most-picked combination. The most common character is hilariously a generic-looking white dude.

BG3‘s most used character is a generic white guy

In a recent update, they addressed a few crash scenarios that can plague players. They corrected problems that make the game stop when moving and dropping items. They also worked on Gale’s Scroll of Resurrection, among others.

Even then, the most notable detail of the post is the result of their analytics. The update showed the results of collated data from all their players. It shows the most famous character “look.”

The look uses a “Head 4” face and a “Hair 13” hairstyle, together with blue eyes and fair skin. In conclusion, these choices result in a generic white guy in his 20s, with short, black hair.

“Before the fixes, let’s share something you’ve created yourselves (this is your own fault) through your choices in character creation,” said the update in a cheeky fashion. “We took the most popular choices in character creation, and recreated this. We thought our analytics system wasn’t working! We checked. It is.

Congratulations, you’ve basically made the default Vault Dweller. What the h*ll guys. We gave you demon eyes, horns, and even tails. We are sorely disappointed. Go crazy. We worked hard on this!”

Larian says RTX 3080 request is “a joke”

The character creation for Baldur’s Gate 3 is one of the more robust options in recent times. It’s not as in-depth as many games, like Cyberpunk 2077 letting players edit genitalia. Even then, it’s enough to give players roleplay freedom.

Even then, it’s understandable why the most used setup is a generic white male. Many guys like character-insertion fantasies in their games. Furthermore, the “generic white dude” is a common power fantasy for much of the Western audience.

Larian also noted the time they asked Nvidia for an RTX 3080. They note that it’s a joke, “because they were too popular for us to buy one.”

“Quite a few of you reached out with sincere requests for how to do that,” said the post. “That was very sweet, thank you for those messages. Keep them! They’re yours. Besides, without your graphics card, how are you going to play BG3?”

Larian’s Baldur’s Gate 3 updated FAQ for common issues is available on their official website. However, the studio still recommends players to use DX11 instead of Vulkan if they have the chance.
