The Politician season 2 will return to Netflix next month. Bette Midler will reportedly reprise her guest role from the first season.
Netflix just confirmed that Bette Middler will have an expanded role in The Politician season 2. The Tony-winning actress will be part of a major storyline in the upcoming season of the comedy-drama.
Middler first appeared as a guest star in the last episode of The Politician season 1. She played Hadassah Gold, who serves as Chief of Staff to New York State Senator Dede Standish (played by Judith Light).
At the end of the previous season, Dede and Hadassah discovered a huge surprise in the news. This was after an unlikely candidate announced his intention to challenge Dede in the elections.

Short recap of The Politician season 1
The first season of The Politician introduced an ambitious high school student named Payton Hobart (Ben Platt). He ran for student body president, which he hoped will help him leapfrog into a career in national politics later on.
He chose Infinity Jackson (Zoey Deutch) as his running mate. However, he got involved in Infinity’s messy family life. Payton and his mother Georgina (Gwyneth Paltrow) also got written out of their patriarch’s will. This derailed Payton’s plans to become a major politician in the future.
Years after, Payton ended up borderline alcoholic while attending New York University. However, a pitch from his high school campaign team galvanized him to run for the New York State Senate.
What reports say about The Politician season 2
After the success of the first season, there is huge fan anticipation for The Politician season 2. The new season will reportedly tell the story of Payton’s run for New York State Senate.
Most of the show’s main cast will return for the show’s sophomore outing. It is also apparent that the show will pick up during the start of Payton’s campaign.
In a recent interview, creator Ryan Murphy hinted at where the show could go after the second season. He mentioned that the third season will likely be the final one for the show. The interview also subtly confirmed that Payton will fulfill his dream of becoming President.
And I think where Season 2 ends, what I would love to do is take a couple of years off and have Ben Platt get a little bit older for his final race. That would obviously be a presidential race, right? That’s always what we had designed, and I think that’s what our plan is.
Bette Midler pledges donation to COVID-19 fundraising effort
In other news, Bette Middler recently announced that she will join fundraising efforts for Broadway Cares and Equity Fights AIDS. She said that she will match donations of up to $100,000 for the COVID-19 Emergency Assistance Fund.
According to a report, the emergency fund will mainly benefit behind-the-scenes theater workers. The shutdown of Broadway shows could extend until December, which will affect thousands of workers in the theater industry.
The Politician season 2 will hit Netflix on Friday, June 19. On the other hand, Bette Middler will next appear in the movie The Glorias.
