The Japanese anime, The Promised Neverland is officially confirmed to return for the second season. Fans have mixed reactions to the delay.
The original release was confirmed in October of this year. However, the coronavirus pandemic had caused a major setback on the production team. Amid the outbreak, the anime series will be returning to the screen in January 2021.
The anime’s first season which debuted in January 2019 quickly gained attention and became one of the biggest releases in the anime world.
The Promised Neverland season 1 synopsis
The Promised Neverland is unlike other Japanese animes because of its dark genre, science fiction, and horror theme. The first season revolved around the lives of three orphans, Emma, Ray, and Norman living together in an orphanage.
As the story progressed, the main characters learned the real reason behind the orphanage’s dark secret. The orphans are being cared for so they can be sacrificed to the demons to be eaten. In order to save their lives, the children organized an escape plan.
Ray, plays a double agent character wherein Isabella used him as his spy. The twist of the story revealed that Ray was also helping Emma and Norman for their escape plan.
The Promised Neverland season 2 plot and characters
The Promised Neverland Season 1 ended with Emma and Ray together with other orphans escaped Grace Field House.
The second installment of the series will have more tension and twists as Emma and Ray goes into the real world. The character of William Minerva is a great mystery that will be unfolded in the next season.
Speaking during the Anime Expo 2019, Director Mamoru Kanbe asserted that The Promised Neverland Season 2 will be a great challenge for the production team. The staff is already working on the script.

Producer Kenta Suzuki hinted that the second season will have a different tone. In the previous season, Emma had realised that she could not bring all the children from the orphanage in her escape but vowed to come back and save them.
Season 2 will greatly focus on Emma, whether she will uphold her promise of going back to the orphanage to save the children, or she will move on with her life. Furthermore, there are also secrets of the demon forest that will be unveiled in season 2.

Fans of the anticipated anime have brought to Twitter their sad reactions to the delay of The Promised Neverland Season 2. Some have voiced out their disappointments, while others posted sad emojis.
