The Red Door is now on Microsoft Store, and fans believe it’s the next Call of Duty. The series is yet to reveal its new iteration, but rumors show that it’s already out.
The Red Door is an active listing right now on the Microsoft Game Store. The title shows itself as an Activision shooter, and it doesn’t have a ton of info on it. There’s no fanfare or announcement at all, which makes it smell like a gimmick.
New listing shows hallmarks of a “marketing material”
Red Door is a weird listing so far. All it has is a quick, albeit enigmatic description.
“There is more than one truth,” says the listing. “If you go looking for answers, be ready to question everything and accept that nothing will ever be the same. The Red Door awaits, do you dare step through it?”
Red Door’s art also suspiciously screaming “mysterious marketing material.” The listing image is a red keyhole with a cryptic design. It’s reminiscent of Tom Clancy books and their covers.
The game is also unlikely to be a case of an accidental early post. Activision is yet to take it down, even with all the hubbub people are generating. It seems it’s meant to be there, asking people to drop down the rabbit hole.
Even then, the connection to Call of Duty is not apparent unless people dig. The game’s content ID, according to game database SerialStation, is Call of Duty. Specifically, it lists as “UP 0002-CUSA20046_00-COD2020INTALPHA1″.
Red Door is likely CoD: Black Ops Cold War
The content ID for The Red Door proves that the game is a likely Call of Duty game. This listing confirms the potential for a Call of Duty 2020 Alpha test. The “red” theme also works, as the game will likely be during the Cold War.
A “red door” hints to a Soviet office, likely a secretive, underground mission. The rumored Call of Duty: Black Ops – Cold War fits the bill like a glove. The Cold War subtitle is garnering steam since May.
There are also subtle hints to the theme for a while. A Reddit thread notes that the reveal for Black Ops 3 used the song “Paint It Black.” The Rolling Stones song uses the lyrics “I see a red door and I want it painted black.”
It doesn’t help that Paint It Black is also the end credits music for Full Metal Jacket. As many fans know, Full Metal Jacket is about the Vietnam War. Even with a mounting body of evidence, The Red Door mystery will only get clearer in time.
