Grace, the AI mother in The Umbrella Academy, might return for the third season and actress Jordan Claire Robbins teased about reprising her character in a recent interview.
Fans of the Netflix series saw a different Grace in The Umbrella Academy season 2, which launched on July 31. The latest superhero drama’s installments delved on her back story as a human being and romantic partner of Reginald Hargreeves (Colm Feore).
However, Robbins said that she would love to be back in the third season as her AI counterpart. Viewers will recall that the AI was destroyed in the first season, but there are speculations Hargreeves kept a copy of Grace.
“Honestly, I would be excited to reprise either role!” the actress told Daily Express. “There is still so much left to explore with both characters, and I would love to continue to build on the work so far.”
Renewal status from Netflix
The streaming platform has not yet officially given the green light for The Umbrella Academy season 3. Fans, however, are not worried over the show’s renewal status because it’s reportedly the number one show on Netflix.
“I get the sense that the second season resonated with fans of the show – I know it did with me – and I think there are still so many directions the story can go from here,” the actress further said. “You never really know with these things but I think it will continue since it has been so well received and things are only just starting to heat up!”
Delays in the announcement might have more to do with the COVID-19 limitations of TV and movie productions. Netflix has been adjusting operations to ensure the safety of the cast and crew from the virus transmission.
Actor Tom Hopper (Number One/Luther Hargreeves) confirmed that they hadn’t been told the show won’t continue. Speaking with NME, the actor said that they assume that they will be back on the set soon, “until we’re told we’re not.”
A new Number One for season 3
But a new Number One will be front and center to the story when the superhero caper comes back. Justin H. Lin (Number 6/Ben Hargreeves) said in an interview with Bustle that he’s curious to see where the evolution of his character goes, as teased in last season’s finale.
After living through different timelines in the 1960s, the Hargreeves siblings returned to the present time but discovered that they’re pretty much non-existent. In place of The Umbrella Academy is the Sparrow Academy, and Ben very much alive.
“I would be curious to see if the number system still applies to this new Sparrow Academy,” Lin said. “He does seem like a leader of the group. He’s the one talking directly to Hargreeves.”
