Nicole Kidman’s upcoming limited series thriller, The Undoing, receives a new premiere date and the third teaser from HBO. Originally set for a May outing, the show is reportedly bowing on Sunday, Oct. 25, at 9:00 p.m. on the premium cable network.

The Undoing is the latest project from Kidman, and Big Little Lies creator David E. Kelly. The story is an adaptation of the 2014 novel, You Should Have Known, from Jean Hanff Korelitz, and also stars Hugh Grant, Donald Sutherland, Haley Fitzgerald, Edgar Ramirez, Lily Rabe, Noah Jupe, Ismael Cruz Cordova, Sofie Gråbøl and Matilda De Angelis.

The latest minute-long trailer shows vignettes of the lies and secrets surrounding Grace (Kidman) and her husband Jonathan (Grant). The Undoing centers on a rich and privileged family, the Frasers, whose lives fall apart as the FBI tries to unlock what Grace is hiding.

Developing You Should Have Known

In March 2018, HBO announced the development of You Should Have Known as a miniseries with David E. Kelley and Kidman. The network tapped Susanne Bier, the director of Netflix’s Bird Box, as series director and set the filming in New York City.

Kidman plays a successful therapist married to a pediatric oncologist who goes missing following a violent death. Her character is left to deal with a public disaster after the authorities uncover an intriguing secret past.

“David has created another propulsive series with a fascinating, complicated female role at its center,” Kidman said in her reunion with the showrunner. The actress and Kelley bonded over their previous critically-acclaimed collaboration on Big Little Lies.

The Murder Details

[Spoiler Alert!] The Undoing will likely change some details in the novel’s plotline since Kelley and the producers also renamed the series. But the book had Jonathan responsible for the woman murdered in the story.

In the novel, Grace finds out that Jonathan had an affair with the murdered woman, a mom from their son’s school. She also learns that her husband has not been working at the hospital because of a string of sexual harassment allegations.

Grace moves to Connecticut with her son for a clean slate. However, Jonathan’s crimes remain a looming cloud over her life, forcing her to confront this dark shadow finally.

She then sets out the truth about the man she married and discovers the family he tried to shun. Jonathan lied to Grace about this upbringing and his background, and she discovers that he may have also been responsible for the death of his younger brother.

At the end of the story, Grace receives a letter from her husband, who confesses to everything. She gives this letter to the FBI, who were able to trace where Jonathan was hiding.

Kidman said that she was inspired by the show because of its many twists. The Undoing will unfold in six episodes.
