The Vampire Diaries writer, LJ Smith, has shared details about his novel The Forbidden Game which will be adapted into a TV series.

LJ Smith shares new project
LJ Smith has just revealed that its horror trilogy novels The Forbidden Game will be adapted as a TV series. The deal for the author was made on behalf of The Bent Agency. Consequently, Warner Bros. Television has acquired the rights for the aforementioned project.
Moreover, it will be executive produced by Berlanti Productions, Sarah Schechter, and David Madden. As of press time, the series adaptation has still not appointed a scriptwriter. Nevertheless, the studio has mentioned that the show is already in its early stages of development.

The Forbidden Game is composed of three books, namely The Hunter, The Chase, and The Kill. The trilogy novel focuses on the character of Jenny Thornton, a seventeen-year-old girl living in southern California. After purchasing a mysterious undecorated game, she and her 6 friends are caught up in a Jumanji-like game.
Together, they are forced to enter different shadow worlds. Above all, they either fight off their worst nightmares or die and have their souls forever imprisoned. Julian, an elusive blue-eyed boy who travels freely between worlds, will set the stakes. Jenny is determined to save herself and her mates. However, her loyalties are challenged as she begins to fall in love with Julian.

Meanwhile, LJ Smith’s The Vampire Diaries is set on the mysterious and fictional town of Mystic Falls, Virginia. The place was charged with supernatural history after migrants from New England settled in.
The story centers on the life of Elena Gilbert who fell in love with a 162-year old vampire named Stefan Salvatore. Their relationship later became complicated after Stefan’s brother Damon developed feelings for Elena, which consequently created a love triangle among the three. Both brothers protected Elena as they faced various villains and threats in their town.
The novel was adapted by CW and starred Nina Dobrev, Ian Somerhalder, as well as Paul Wesley as the lead cast. The show ran for almost 8 years and has aired 171 episodes between 8 seasons. The series’ success paved way for two spinoff series: The Originals and Legacies.
