The Walking Dead season 11 will not be coming this October as originally planned. The drama’s showrunner Angela Kang explained they had to push back the premiere due to the coronavirus pandemic.
But while the release of The Walking Dead season 11 has been postponed, Kang revealed some good news.
Via the pre-recorded TWD panel during the Comic-Con@Home event, she said the tenth season is getting additional six episodes, and these will be aired in 2021, as per the Deadline.
Season 10 of TWD was supposed to conclude in October, but with the extension, it is clear the ‘real’ finale is happening next year.
Altered filming schedule for The Walking Dead season 11
The showrunner shared that filming for the eleventh season of the zombie-themes series has yet to begin. She said they have been working at home in the past few months, and the actual production is not yet in their schedules.
“COVID has disrupted a lot of things for every workplace, including ours,” Digital Spy quoted Kang as saying. “The writers’ room for season 11 has been going remotely for the past few months. We haven’t been able to start production but we’ll get back to work as soon as we safely can.”
Season 10 extension details
For the tenth season of TWD, Angela Kang further explained that the additional episodes are an extension that will go beyond the finale. They are working on it now, and she promised that fans would hear more details about it soon.
“We’re excited to announce an extended season 10 and there will be six extra episodes to follow the finale and those will run in early 2021 if all goes well,” she said. “We’re working on those now and we’ll have more to share soon.”
Now that it was confirmed The Walking Dead season 10 had been extended, it will now be the record-holder as the longest season in the show’s history. Ever since the series premiered in 2010, it typically offers just 16 episodes maximum per season.
Meanwhile, it was recently confirmed that a new character had been added to The Walking Dead season 11. AMC announced that Margot Bingham is set to join the cast lineup as Stephanie.
Den of Geek noted that Margot Bingham participated in two episodes of season 10. Still, she only did a mysterious voice-over, which means she did not appear physically in the drama. In any case, it was not revealed what exactly her role would be in the upcoming season.
