George R.R. Martin has been working on The Winds of Winter for almost a decade, but it is yet to see the light of the day. As the writer just finished working on another book, Deuces Down, fans question his commitment to finishing the A Song of Ice and Fire book series.
Fans and bookworms alike feel Martin has a lot of time doing other book projects than working on The Winds of Winter. As a lot of book readers are waiting for this sixth book installment, they seem to believe the author is just wasting his time working on other projects.
Fans’ react to Martin’s new project
Martin recently shared a post about the hardcover version of his new book Deuces Down. However, as fans have been looking forward to a new TWoW update, they got this instead.
Hence, they can’t help but ask the novelist to finish the sixth ASoIaF novel.
Deuces Down may have been written by different writers, Caroline Spector, Mary Anne Mohanraj, and Carrie Vaughn, but Martin himself has edited it.
This incited his followers to leave a comment on his post, saying he had time to edit other books but couldn’t finish The Winds of Winter.
They also asked Martin not to waste his time doing other side-projects and put his sole attention on the much-awaited novel.
According to BlockToro, the 72-year-old personality keeps indulging himself in doing TV shows, video games, and other works.
“Mr. George, I respect you as a great author, and I just wanted to say, are you stalling? Or is it writer’s block?” one fan commented. “I seriously hope you haven’t lost interest in the series… I am really hoping to read the real end to the series.”
“Hey, I know you don’t like setting deadlines, but I think it would help,” another added. “I’m not demanding anything, but I am saying it would be a lot easier to stay engaged if we had a deadline.”
Tor is set to release DEUCES DOWN in hardcover Today 😀

Diana Gabaldon talks about Martin’s book delays
Talking about deadlines, fellow author and Martin’s personal friend Diana Gabaldon shared her thoughts about her pal’s repeatedly delayed book releases.
“Unlike George, I write no matter where I am or what else I’m doing,” she said, per Winter is Coming. “In fact, well, he admits it himself. He likes to travel, and he can’t write while he travels.”
Anyhow, the Outlander author acknowledged Martin’s way of writing. “That’s just the way he works. Everybody’s got their own writing mechanism,” she continued.
“I wrote in any spare minutes that I had, so I’ve just kept that work ethic, so to speak,” she added. “I will [write] at intervals during the day. I write when I travel and so forth.”
So, when the deadline comes, Gabaldon has something to submit and her fans won’t get mad.
By the looks of it, Martin can learn a thing or two from Gabaldon herself so that he can finally finish writing The Winds of Winter.
