George R.R. Martin has yet to finish The Winds of Winter, and it looks like he has another reason to delay the release. Aside from editing others’ books and overseeing a number of Game of Thrones prequels on HBO, another GoT-inspired animated series will be in the works.
Martin will also get his hands on in this new Game of Thrones spinoff. With the additional work he has to do, will he still have time to finish The Winds of Winter?
A new Game of Thrones animated series
According to BlockToro, HBO is thinking of creating a new Game of Thrones animated series. Instead of a live-action like the original show, it will feature animation this time.
Sure, the GoT fans may be celebrating the news, but not the awaiting The Winds of Winter readers.
With the new work Martin has to do, this may only mean that the sixth book installment’s release will be further delayed.
The novelist recently set a release date of Summer 2020, but the year came and went, and no book was dropped.
Hence, until today, fans are waiting for Martin to give a new update and work on finishing the A Song of Ice and Fire series.

A new Game of Thrones animated series and more prequels
Variety confirmed a new Game of Thrones animated series is in its “very early development” on HBO Max.
However, no details are available about its plot, staff and crew, and voice actors yet. HBO’s new streaming even declined to give any comment about it.
HBO is also working on a new series based on Martin’s Tales of Dunk and Egg. This tale is about a series of fantasy novellas that follow the story of Ser Duncan the Tall, who’s Dunk, and the young Aegon V Targaryen, who’s Egg.
This event takes place 90 years before A Song of Ice and Fire occurs and said to be the basis of Game of Thrones.
In addition, there’s also a Game of Thrones live-action prequel series called House of the Dragon, which would be out in 2022. This, on the other hand, would tell the story that leads to the development of the Targaryen civil war in Westeros, also known as the Dance of Dragons.
It seems it has been WarnerMedia’s top priority to expand the Game of Thrones’ world since the original series ended in 2019.
There are a lot of projects in the works that Martin created himself, making fans fear for the completion of The Winds of Winter.
