CD Projekt Red first announced the next-gen update for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt in September. This took place before the official releases of Xbox Series X, Series S, and PlayStation 5.
While avid fans and gamers thought it would drop before the year ended, the game developer seemingly remained silent throughout 2020. Reports said, though, that they were dealing with various issues, like ransomware attacks, making the whole dynamic understandable.
But, on Wednesday midnight, new details about the update emerged. Comic Book Resources released a report about the announcement.
The publication said that the confirmation of the next-gen update for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt happened during CD Projekt Red’s group strategy update. At the same time, Public Relations Manager for the company Radek Grabowski released a social media post informing the public about the move.
On Twitter, he posted an update alongside a photo of the game. Radek said that the update for Xbox Series X/S and PS5 would arrive “in the second half of 2021.”
He did not specify, however, when it will exactly drop. But, netizens on the platform expressed their excitement about the announcement.
Despite the lack of details, Slash Gear said that the announcement “at least” confirmed the next-generation update. Therefore, this has seemingly led the public to believe that the upcoming version “is still in the works.”
The same publication also tried to discuss what it will entail once it arrives in the next few months. As emphasized, CD Projekt Red has not disclosed any significant details about the features.
The report recalled, though, the earlier announcement of the update back in September. As fans would recall, the developers claimed that “it would leverage the ray tracing capabilities and faster load times of both consoles.”
It will also reportedly include the Blood and Wine expansion, as well as the Hearts of Stone. Moreover, the upgrade will be free of costs for gamers. This mainly applies to individuals who already have The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and/or PC.
Before the update announcement, PC Gamer reported that the “Wild Hunt” might likely be in Netflix’s The Witcher Season 2. This came after photos of the filming, taking place at Saunton Beach in Devon, emerged these past few days.
While it is possible for the roles to be in the show, the publication said that no confirmations had been shared yet. Accordingly, it is likely, as well, that it will be different. As suggested, the inclusion of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt on The Witcher Season 2 might just be a “cameo appearance.”
