The Witcher season 2 will need to recast a major role after one of its actors dropped out due to COVID-19 scheduling problems.
Thue Ersted Rasmussen did scenes with The Witcher star Henry Cavill’s Geralt of Rivia before the pandemic. But he sadly told his followers on Instagram that he won’t be back to the set anymore.
“Due to the rescheduling because of Covid-19, I will not be portraying Eskel in The Witcher,” the actor wrote, adding that the decision has been heartbreaking. However, he chose to simply be grateful for his time on the set with Cavill and the crew.
“Everyone was extremely engaged and passionate about the project and it was a truly inspiring experience,” Rasmussen said. He also wished the show good luck and predicted it will be an amazing second season.
The actor also said that he will be watching The Witcher season 2 as a fan. Netflix has not yet announced who will take over Rasmussen’s role. Production resumed in late August in various parts of Europe.

The return of a season 1 character
But as one actor is gone, there is reportedly an unexpected actress returning to the set. According to Redanian Intelligence, Imogen Daines (Danica) is in the second season and fans think her participation might be part of a flashback.
Danica appeared in The Witcher season 1 episode 3 in a flashback scene to show part of Geralt’s past. It is possible showrunner Lauren S. Hissrich is bringing the character back for another glimpse into Geralt’s former life.
The showrunner confirmed in an interview with The Wrap that there will still be some flashbacks and flashforwards in the upcoming installment. However, it won’t be as confusing as the first season.
“We get to actually integrate time in a completely different way that we weren’t able to do in season 1,” Hissrich said.
Making the series featurette
Meanwhile, fans of the series may get their fix while waiting for the release of the second season. Netflix dropped a behind-the-scenes featurette, Making The Witcher, to tide over the long wait.
The documentary is an exposition into the monsters, the ballads and the magic of the Continent. Cavill, Anya Chalotra (Yennefer) and Hissrich are also featured in the interviews.
Netflix has not yet given the exact release date of The Witcher season 2. Production has a February 2021 wrap up schedule so it’s likely that the series will launch in the third quarter of next year.
