The Witcher season 2 cast and crew gear up as production commences. However, the stars have to deal with major storyline changes.
Following the success of The Witcher season 1, Netflix opened a bigger door for the original series through its season 2 renewal. However, disappointment eventually replaced the fans’ excitement.
Cast and crew commence production
It appears that The Witcher series has decided to halt production in mid-March due to the global pandemic. Fortunately, filming will commence soon for the highly-anticipated series. Reportedly, the cast and crew will start up production on the 3rd of August 2020.
The news came after UK’s government and health authorities allowed British high-end film and television productions to continue shooting as early as July. The Witcher studio’s managing director Bob Terry confirmed that work is underway to get the grounds ready for filming.
In his interview with Deadline, he further revealed that he will hold meetings over the next two weeks to finalize safety procedures.
Coronavirus crisis affects The Witcher season 2’s storyline
The Witcher’s showrunner Lauren Hissrich shared that the creative team honed scripts during the lockdown. She told The Wrap:
“Really, in terms of writing, we’ve just been honing a lot over the last eight weeks. Really digging back into scripts, making some big shifts, especially in the emotional journeys of our characters and making sure that everything we’re writing feels really grounded and true.”
Hissrich further said that the coronavirus restrictions demanded revisions to the story that the crew had initially planned. Henceforth, the plot will experience a lot of tweaking until it both satisfies the stars’ preference and abides to COVID-19 directives.

Showrunner teases plot
Lauren Hissrich has recently provided a sneak peek of what to expect in The Witcher season 2. As per her interview with RadioTimes, the next series is set to mine more from the first mainline installment, Blood of Elves.
However, some short stories from the Witcher saga, The Last Wish and The Sword of Destiny will still be incorporated. She stated:
“A lot of what we’ve set up in season one will come into play in season two. We will get into some stuff from Blood of Elves. But I also think there are things that we wanted to adapt from The Last Wish and Sword of Destiny.”
The Witcher adds new stars
According to recent reports, five stars have been added to The Witcher’s cast ensemble. First off, Joel Adrian will portray Hemrik, a witcher and an original character created for the show. Lesley Ewen will also appear as Meena Coppercloth, another original character.
Consequently, veteran actor Vernon Dobtcheff and Romanian-born Alina Ilin will both play elven characters. However, the role of Scarlett Maltman, famous for The Great remains unknown.
