Aquaman star Jason Momoa heard the rumors that he’s eyed to star in The Witcher: Blood Origins spinoff on Netflix. The actor hasn’t confirmed anything, but he’s enjoying the speculations.
Netflix announced the prequel series in July, as work on the mother series with Henry Cavill is set to restart production. The Witcher: Blood Origins will take place 1200 years before the current show. It will be a six-episode limited series that will expound on the origins of the monster hunters.
In a post on his Instagram story, Momoa shared a fan-made photo of himself with Cavill in full witcher gear. Momoa captioned the photo with a humorous shoutout to his Justice League co-star.
Reports from insiders stated that something is definitely happening behind the scenes to ensure that Momoa joins the monster hunters universe. According to Redanian Intelligence, Netflix is still finalizing its deal with the superstar before they make everything official.
What’s happening in the prequel?
Declan de Barra will be the showrunner of the prequel series. Lauren Hissrich, who handles the mother show, will serve as the executive producer.
“A question has been burning in my mind ever since I first read The Witcher books: What was the Elven world really like before the cataclysmic arrival of the humans?” de Barra said in the press release announcing the coming of the sequel. “I’ve always been fascinated by the rise and fall of civilizations, how science, discovery, and culture flourish right before that fall.”
De Barra’s story will focus on the Elven civilization before it disintegrated. Other details about the prequel are not available, for now, since it’s still in the pre-production production phase.
The Witcher: Blood Origin will reportedly begin principal photography after the filming of Cavill’s show wraps up. Delays, however, have predictably taken place due to COVID-19.
Will Cavill’s character appear in the prequel?
The prequel’s timeline takes place long before the birth of Cavill’s Geralt of Rivia. But while Geralt was not yet alive when the first witcher came to be, it’s still possible for Cavill to board the prequel.
According to Screen Rant, the actor may have a cameo as a different character, or he can boldly become the first monster hunter created. He won’t, however, be an ascendant of Geralt since the monster hunters cannot procreate. Their mutations have made them infertile.
Cavill may also appear in the prequel as Geralt via flashforward scenes. The writers might want to show parallels between the characters and how much their actions affect the world around them.
