Avatar: The Last Airbender will be returning to Netflix on May 15 after the streaming giant took it down a while back. All three seasons – or books as the hardcore fans might call it – are all coming back, adding more binge-worthy shows amidst the quarantine.

Avatar: The Last Airbender is set in a world where most people can control one of the four basic elements: wind, air, water, and fire. However, one entity – called the Avatar – can control all four at once.
Series Overview
The main protagonist of the show is Avatar Aang, a 12-year-old airbender who was trapped in ice for over 100 years. The story began when siblings Katara (Mae Whitman) and Sokka (Jack DeSena) discovered Aang and freed him from his frozen state.
Their journey is mostly centered around Aang and helping him master all four elements. The trio became a quartet when they met 12-year-old Toph (Jessie Flower), an earthbending prodigy who became Aang’s strict teacher.
Along with flying bison Appa and winged lemur Momo, the group journeyed across several nations to stop the Fire Nation’s desire to dominate the world. The series is perfect for parents who are looking to binge-watch a show with their kids as the story contains several deep themes that are rare for a children’s show.
Avatar: The Last Airbender live-action
In 2018, Netflix announced that it’s going to make a live-action remake of the critically-acclaimed series. Show-creators Michael DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko will act as the executive producer of the adaptation, partially allaying the fears of fans and somewhat reassuring them that it will not be train-wrecked that M. Night Shyamalan directed a decade ago.
The latest news on this front came from Konietzko a month ago, where he updated the fan base on the current state of the project. Unfortunately, the show is still in its pre-production phase, and the casting call hasn’t even been made yet. The good news is that everything is still progressing despite the current state of the world.
“If you haven’t been keeping up with the news, film and tv productions the world over have been suspended. At the moment, we are lucky that our small team on the adaptation is still moving things forward as best we can, obviously all working remotely. And as is always the case, when we have news we can share we will share it,” Konietzko wrote on his Instagram page.
Thankfully, Avatar: The Last Airbender is returning to Netflix, giving fans some content to tide them over until a more significant update is revealed on the adaptation. And of course, if you finished the series, you can opt to binge-watch its sequel, The Legend of Korra.
