TikTok and Sony Music have reached a long-drawn anticipated licensing deal to expand their music library. Check out the details below.
ByteDance owned Chinese video-sharing social networking platform TikTok, and Sony Music Entertainment strike a licensing deal that will continue playing songs from the account group’s record of hit artists to the Chinese short-form video app.
Are the companies hiding the details?
According to a Verge report, both TikTok and Sony Music have to provide ‘real’ details. Some details that may concern TikTok users. However, there’s a high chance that things will mostly remain the same.
Although this may still be remarkable progress, TikTok has been striving to cut the main record groups’ latest features.
They further pop in popularity to assure that they don’t miss out on some of the world’s top songs. This, however, appears to be the first deal to be locked in.
TikTok-Sony deal
After signing similar deals with UK-based non-profit company Merlin earlier this year, TikTok is now set to sign a licensing deal with Sony Music Entertainment to “expand” its music library.
The deal, however, will be providing Sony Music to use TikTok’s platform. The platform is the base of numerous viral internet trends.
Moreover, it is a place where emerging artists earn fans quickly. Sony will be able to use the platform to promote its own artists.
Further, the deal will be providing access to Sony’s collection of music, which includes global musicians such as Beyonce, Martin Garrix, and Harry Styles.
The deal comes a day following the U.S. Commerce Department’s announcement, in which they told that it would “vigorously defend” an administrative law that attempts to prevent businesses with the Chinese-owned TikTok following a federal judge blocking the business.
