Amid the pandemic crisis, Tom Cruise has continued to get himself busy with his work. Aside from the two upcoming Mission: Impossible films, reports said that he is also working for another project.
Earlier in May, the rumors about the actor, pushing an “in space” set film emerged. Weeks later, several publications confirmed and revealed the details of the plans. He, alongside director Doug Liman, is, indeed, planning to film outside Earth, according to Page Six.
Sources said that Tom Cruise and Doug Liman, together with Christopher McQuarrie and PJ van Sandwijk, “pitched” a film, which will have an outer space setting, in a Zoom meeting, as per Deadline. They, reportedly, talked about the picture, which does not have a script yet.
One of the primary details includes the production costs commitment that they intend to pursue. As noted, they came up with a AU$278 million budget for the “in space” film.
Liman has since reportedly drafted the script. While he will continue to work on the material, the Edge of Tomorrow star will be the producer. Despite these details, it remains unclear, though, when they will start production.
When the rumors emerged a few months ago, the publications claimed that Tom Cruise and company try to enlist the help of NASA and SpaceX, alongside the latter’s CEO, Elon Musk. Although details have remained scarce, Wired‘s sources said that the production will need assistance from the said institutions “in some parts” of the film.
Reports also noted that they went to Florida, at that time, to witness the launch of SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket. The launch, reportedly, became a “historic” event that placed the United States back in the field of human spaceflight.
Following the talks about the “in space” film, reports about the shooting of the Mission: Impossible films emerged. As stated, Norway has since made exceptions for the whole production of the franchise to continue its shooting and filming in the country, despite the continued lockdown restrictions.
Sources said that the Norweigan government will set special parameters for the production team to secure the safety of everyone in the country amid the pandemic crisis. This reportedly comes after Tom Cruise personally contacted the government to discuss the matter.
