A potential Legend of Zelda live-action is reportedly in the works on Netflix with Tom Holland in the lead role.
The buzz around a Legend of Zelda adaptation has been in the grapevine for years. Nintendo has not issued any confirmation but the talks haven’t died down. Now, the name of Tom Holland has been tossed in the discussions.
According to reports, Netflix has been negotiating with Nintendo for a movie or a TV show based on its highly-popular video game. If things go as planned, the streamer apparently wants the Spider-Man star to play Link.
Link, the main protagonist, has a Peter Pan-like appearance that Holland could easily pull off. The character doesn’t speak in the video games but he is depicted as a compassionate, brave and sharp-minded warrior who values his allies. The report went on to say that Holland can easily project his own spin to Link’s personality.
A 35th year offering?
In 2021, Nintendo is going to celebrate the 35th year of Legend of Zelda thus giving rise to more speculations of a movie or TV adaptation.
In August, rumors also surfaced that Captain Marvel star Brie Larson has had discussions with Netflix to star as Princess Zelda. The actress reportedly wants the coveted role because she’s a big fan of the video game franchise.
In an interview on First We Feast, Larson, an avid gamer, said that Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild might be Nintendo’s best game yet. She said that it might even top her favorite, Super Mario 3D World.
Pausing from the video game genre
Meanwhile, Tom Holland is pausing from doing work in the video game genre with his new Netflix movie. The Devil All The Time dropped on the platform on Sept. 11, 2020, which also stars Robert Pattinson.
Holland filmed this thriller in between his work on the third installment of Spider-Man and the upcoming Unchartedbig screen adaptation. He admitted to feeling the nerves because The Devil All The Time is completely different from his other projects.
“I’ve got to say I was really nervous and scared coming on set for the first time because I didn’t know if I had it in me to play this type of character,” Tom Holland said in a Variety interview. The actor described his character as “complicated” and “very dark.” He had to “go places mentally” to understand his role.
