The highly anticipated sequel, Train to Busan 2: Peninsula might be heading to Netflix in 2021. Moreover, the story picks up four years after the events in the original movie.
Although Train to Busan 2: Peninsula is a sequel, it does not follow the story of the original film. Instead, the sequel features a new character, soldier Jung-Seok, played by Gang Don-Won. While it is not as popular as Train to Busan, it still one of the most in-demand movies to arrive on the streaming platform.
The sequel was a success than expected
The sequel released in July amid the coronavirus pandemic, and it garnered a massive $13 million in its initial opening. The figure is expected to increase when it releases in other territories across the world. Just last month, Gang Don-Won talked to Deadline and was quite impressed with the film’s success. Describing the film, Gang Don-Won asserted that the “film was a bigger success than expected.” He further stated:
“We put in a lot of effort back in the day… now we have one of the best systems in the world. Before, it was like we had to shoot 72 hours in a row because we didn’t have enough budget. But now we have a very advanced system. I still remember when I started my career 15 years ago, I could be walking and sleeping at the same time.”

Train to Busan 2: Peninsula plot details
The plot follows a group of survivors when the pandemic is already uncontainable. The government has lost control of the virus, putting South Korea in a devastated and hopeless situation. The main character, Jung Seok together with his brother-in-law must return to Incheon city to retrieve a food truck containing $20 million cash.

Junk Seok and the other protagonists navigate the abandoned and desolated Korea. As civilization continues to collapse, Jung Seok must infiltrate Incheon city to retrieve the money. They will face the horde of zombies occupying the whole of the city.
When will the movie drop on Netflix
Although the sequel is not yet confirmed to arrive on Netflix, there’s a big possibility that it will soon debut on the streaming giant. Netflix has closed a deal with a film distributor, Well Go USA. Some of the films available on Well Go USA are the Ip Man franchise, Freaks, and the prequel to Peninsula, Train to Busan. Thus, there is a big chance that Peninsula will also drop on Netflix. Given its popularity, fans might expect the sequel in February 2021.
