Travis Scott and Drake received a lawsuit following the Astroworld Festival tragedy.
On Friday, the most awaited Astroworld Festival of Travis Scott and Drake left eight people dead after a stampede occurred. Immediately after the incident, one of the injured attendees filed a lawsuit on Sunday against the duo, Live Nation, and NRG Stadium.
Daily Mail first reported that one concertgoer, 23-year-old Kristian Paredes from Austin, Texas, filed the complaint on Sunday. He is seeking more than $1 million in damages as both rappers reportedly “incited the crowd” and caused him to be injured.
“The crowd became chaotic and a stampede began leaving eight dead and dozens including Kristian Paredes severely injured,” the filing stated. “Many begged security guards hired by Live Nation Entertainment for help, but were ignored.”
His attorney, Thomas J. Henry, said that the artists nor the organizers have an excuse for what happened at the NRG Stadium on Friday.
The event reportedly turned deadlier when the crowd tried pushing themselves forward after Drake appeared on stage.
Meanwhile, during the news conference on Saturday afternoon, Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner revealed that eight people died during the event — John Hilgert, Franco Patino, Danish Baig, Brianna Rodriguez, Rudy Peña, Jacob E. Jurinek, and Axel Acosta.
Another lawsuit filed against Scott
Aside from Paredes, concert attendee Manuel Souza also submitted legal documents where he accused “owners, operators, promoters, public relations representatives, and/or organizers of the concert and/or owners owner and operators of the premises” of “conscious disregard of the extreme risk of harm to concertgoers that had been escalating since hours earlier.”
Per Fox News, the lawsuit added a tweet Travis Scott posted in May about the angry fans who complained about the show being sold out. The rapper reportedly encouraged fans to sneak in through barriers.
Souza’s representatives added that Scott already has a history of suggesting violence to fans.
“He and those who promoted and supported this concert must take responsibility for their heinous actions. We intend to hold them fully accountable by showing that this behavior will not be tolerated in our great city,” he went on.
They also revealed they would be investigating what happened during the incident and gave justice to the victims and their families.
A third lawsuit was filed by Noah Gutierrez, saying that the accounts of people who attended the event spoke about the show already.
