The controversial Turing Pharmaceuticals former head, recently released from jail, has many thoughts on the cryptocurrency sector.
Martin Shkreli, also known as “Pharma Bro,” Turing Pharmaceuticals’ former head, has gone full cryptobro. He praised and attacked Ethereum developer Vitalik Buterin.
Shkreli also criticized NFTs and all the individuals who developed an altcoin in his name in a Twitter Space yesterday.
Who is Shkreli
Shkreli got the title “Pharma Bro” after he exaggeratedly boosted the price of Daraprim, a toxoplasmosis practice, by 5,000%. He was a securities fraud convict since 2017. And because of his early release from jail on May 18, he has been pretty active.
He said over the weekend that he learned how to trade on the decentralized exchange Uniswap while inside the jail. According to him, he had undisclosed rewards in return for providing Bitcoin advice to jail guards.
He also seems well-versed in cryptocurrency, having plenty of thoughts on the sector and its technology.
He said today on Twitter Space that he does not trust Vitalik Buterin’s notion of the blockchain trilemma.
Blockchain trilemma means that “blockchain networks must make compromises in order to achieve security, scalability, and decentralization all at the same time.”
Shkreli remarked on Twitter that Buterin must be mad at him because the latter is “full of sh*t” and that there is no “trilemma.” He also asserted what Algorand creator Silvio Micali has proven that the trilemma was “a mathematically poor notion.”
He, however, praised Vitalik for his brilliance.
Shkreli Inu cryptocurrency
Named after the disgraced hedge fund manager, the Shkreli Inu cryptocurrency’s release was on Ethereum only days ago. According to statistics from Nomics, nearly $1 million worth of cryptocurrency has been exchanged on Uniswap during the last 24 hours.
Today, Shkreli said that he acquired “half” of the Shkreli Inu supply but denied that he created it.
Regarding NFTs and Web3, Shkreli said that he is curious but unimpressed. He noted the 10,000 “retarded” item generative NFT collections, such as CryptoPunks and Bored Apes. And also that Web3 is only a “buzzword.”
