Twitch was recently the victim of a cyberattack that mainly leaked information about payments and streamers. But maybe this news could be a little off-putting for streamers who are still new to the Platform.
Video game streaming and Twitch VOD service logo are displayed during “Paris Games Week” on October 29, 2019, in Paris, France. “Paris Games Week” is an international video game show from October 29 to November 3, 2019.
According to a report from PC Gamer, the recent Twitch hack revealed that the Platform’s most massive payouts weren’t were only available for 0.01% of top streamers. Only a tiny fraction of all content creators on Twitch earn what some might call “quitting your job 95”.

Here is the undisputed top 10, with their total Twitch-only earnings going from August 2019 through September 2021. As you can see, the overall Twitch earnings for these top streamers drop pretty significantly on the list.
From first place to fifth place, it’s already a $6 pay cut. Even those low on the scale say the 1,000th highest earner could still make around $85,000 a year. Cyber attack issue
The recent Twitch hack didn’t just reveal those payout numbers, of course. According to The Verge, the source code of the streaming platform for its mobile, desktop, and game console clients, as well as a potential unreleased Steam competitor allegedly developed by Amazon Game Studios, compromised credentials, or even the personal addresses of users of the Platform.
But that does not mean that no information was ever consulted. Moreover, the data breachers grimly claimed that this was only the “first part,” according to The Verge. Users must therefore secure their accounts quickly.
Twitch leaks on payments and streamers
Take a look at these numbers. In the space of two years, the best streamers could expect to make up to $4.5 million per year on average. Even those at the bottom of the scale, they say, the thousandth highest earner could still earn around $85,000 a year.
