Twitter verification re-opening, for users, to get the blue tick!

Share

The big process of Twitter verification is coming back for the users! The company just revealed that people could get that “blue tick” again.

According to The Independent, the Twitter verification process will open again after a big gap. In the past, many users used to go for it to get that ultimate “blue tick.” However, the platform closed a while ago due to several controversial issues.

But now, it seems like it’s going to re-open the awaited procedure soon.

What’s Twitter verification, and how it’s coming back?

Initially unveiled in 2009, the popular verification checkmark gives an idea about a person’s account. Many other social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram have this feature for their users.

It simply means that the identity of an individual’s account has been checked. However, Twitter stopped its verification program a while ago due to major criticism. Accusations claimed that it publicized wrong accounts.

Now that it’s coming back, there will be many changes also to the entire process. The company also revealed that those already having a blue tick could lose it. It will happen if they fail to complete their profiles or if their accounts are unused.

Only select users to get the “blue tick”

As per new guidelines, only six types of accounts will be eligible for the blue tick verification mark. These include fields such as government, companies, brands, and non-profit organizations; news; entertainment; sports; and activists, organizers, and other “influential individuals.” The platform has clearly mentioned this in a recent blog.

It also said, however, that these standards could be stretched over time. It also asserted that currently, the objective is to cut down the number of verified accounts.

“We recognize that there are many verified accounts on Twitter who should not be,” read the company’s blog.

“We plan to start by automatically removing badges from accounts that are inactive or have incomplete profiles to help streamline our work and to expand this to include additional types of accounts over the course of 2021.”

When the verification programmed stopped three years ago, chief executive Jack Dorsey termed it as “broken.”

“Verification was meant to authenticate identity & voice, but it is interpreted as an endorsement or an indicator of importance. We recognize that we have created this confusion and need to resolve it,” he said in 2017.

Meanwhile, under the new procedure, Twitter has urged people to send their feedback on proposed policies to help prevent any complications. Additionally, the site also asked its users to complete a short survey regarding the draft verification policy. They can post it to the platform by using the hashtag #VerificationFeedback.

It will be interesting to see how many people can successfully get their Twitter verification done in the coming days.
