Ubisoft is shutting down Tom Clancy’s Elite Squad only a year after its release, with the last update coming out this week until the servers shut down on October.
Tom Clancy’s Elite Squad is one of the few mobile offerings that Ubisoft thought up last year. The mobile title filled the free to play niche that Ubisoft was running after, but it all ends soon.
The game will close its servers October, with the last update coming this week. This announcement comes less than a year after the Elite Squad came out in August 2020.
Elite Squad was a Raid: Shadow Legends clone
Elite Squad originally filled the F2P niche for Ubisoft within the mobile gaming space. In of itself, the game was almost the same as Raid Shadow Legends. The title was a freemium RPG title that used special operators instead of heroes.

The game was not much to write home about, considering that it is a military version of a generic mobile title genre. Furthermore, it’s not surprising that Ubisoft is closing down the game, considering their announcement of XDefiant.
The closing of servers came from an announcement from the game’s official website. The shutdown comes a little over a year after the title’s release.
Game was “no longer sustainable”, says devs
Within the announcement, the devs of Tom Clancy’s Elite Squad noted that the title “was no longer sustainable”. This likely comes from the lack of compelling gameplay from the title, as well as a likely poor financial showing.
“It is with a great deal of sadness that we are announcing we will no longer be releasing new content for Elite Squad. Today’s update will be our last, and on October 4th, 2021 we will shut the servers down,” said the post.
“This was not an easy decision, but after exploring multiple options with our teams, we came to the conclusion that it was no longer sustainable. We want to assure you all that we really gave it our best, especially with big updates like Season 2, and it was a truly rewarding experience to work with you, our passionate community!
“We sincerely hope that you have enjoyed playing with us as much as we have enjoyed making the game and engaging with you all on social media and Discord. We hope that some of you stick around with us and have fun reaching level 70 and unlocking all of the soldiers you can before we say goodbye.”
Tom Clancy’s Elite Squad will close its servers October 4. For now, players can enjoy the game with all soldiers unlocked.
