Ubisoft’s strategy management game The Settlers undertakes a new delay. The city builder was unveiled in 2018 and is due this year, but devs are pulling back.
Ubisoft Blue Byte announced an indefinite delay for The Settlers this weekend. The original expectations for the game slated it for an Autumn 2019 window. All that changed and initially moved to an ambiguous 2020 release.
Now, Blue Byte is cranking the brakes for the game. The team announced an indefinite delay for “quality” purposes.
Settlers is a cult classic with a superb fanbase
Settlers is one of the more beloved city management and strategy titles out there. While it’s more niche than the Civilization franchise, it has a solid user base under it. The franchise itself has eight titles under its belt, including its many remakes.
The first game for the Settlers franchise came out in 1993 and was a masterpiece. Its existence on the Amiga and MS-DOS made it super lovable to many of its early fans. Players lauded it as “achieved by creative talent of the highest order.”
The game is superb that it received better comparisons to classics like Populous. Over the years, the game kept a consistent release every two to four years.
The last game in the franchise was in 2010, with The Settlers HD for mobile devices. There’s also The Settlers Online around the same year. The game is coming back now, more than ten years after the last title.
Many of the fans of the game would now need to wait a little longer. Blue Byte is pushing the game back a bit further to “address your feedback.”
Blue Byte delays due to addressing feedback and quality
The Settlers devs have consistently created updates for the progress of the game. Many of these show off how various buildings work, including many other systems. Through these updates, the team noticed more of the community’s feedback.
Due to fresh information with what fans want, Blue Bytes is looking to improve. The delay will likely give the devs more time to work out any kinks.
“Since quality is our main priority, we want to take the time necessary to make it right,” said the team in their dev blog. “Therefore, we had to make the difficult decision to postpone the release of the game until further notice. The additional time will be used to address your feedback and deliver the best ‘The Settlers’ game possible.”
Blue Byte does not have a definite release date, but they promised to do updates. The team will put up new info through their channels and official website.
