Comic book publisher Valiant has announced a remastered version of its popular game “Shadow Man.”
The action-adventure game will be released for different platforms including PCs through Steam and GOG, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and the PlayStation 4.
Back in 2014, Nightdive Studios made a remaster of the game for PCs. For this latest remaster, Nightdive used the same “KEX” engine used to remaster “System Shock,” “Turok 2,” and “Forsaken.”
Modern graphics for a classic game
The game remake will be released in 4K resolution with improved shadow mapping, better lighting, and anti-aliasing. Some parts of the game that were cut during the previous remake will also be brought back to the game. Other features and minor enhancements will also be added.
“Our goal with the remaster is to give today’s generation of gamers all the features that they expect from a modern title while preserving the qualities that made Valiant’s iconic character and the original Shadow Man game such memorable classics to begin with,” said Stephen Kick, Nightdive Studios CEO.
Gameplay recap
Younger gamers might not be familiar with “Shadow Man.” The Valiant classic is based on the comic book of the same title. The game follows the adventures of a young man named Michael LeRoi as he tries to protect the “Liveside from the demons of the “Deadside.”
The game first came out in 1999 for the PC, PlayStation, Nintendo 64, and the Sega Dreamcast console.
From comic books to consoles
Valiant Entertainment created one of the largest connected universes in the comic world. The studio has around 2,000 characters in total.
In 2018, DMG entertainment acquired Valiant and started an expansion to different medium beyond comic books. Their first move into the big screen was the movie “Bloodshot” starring Vin Diesel which opened Number 1 worldwide last weekend.
The film industry is just one of the industries that DMG-Valiant wants to penetrate.
“As part of our continued growth into the video game industry, we’re happy to bring Valiant fans this immensely popular ‘Shadow Man’ character as the next title we release,” said Dan Mintz, chairman and CEO of Valiant Entertainment.
Valiant will also introduce a new “Shadow Man” comic alongside the upcoming video game. “Shadow Man #1″ will be released on May 20 and will be created by Cullen Bunn (“Venom”) and well-known artist Jon Davis-Hunt (“The Wildstorm”).
“Shadow Man” is currently in development for the PC and several game consoles. The release date is yet to be announced.
