VinSmart, a subsidiary of Vietnamese conglomerate Vingroup, recently confirmed it had developed a 5G-capable smartphone.
This new smartphone from VinSmart is the first 5G capable device developed in the country. While most of the company’s business is confined in Vietnam, it plans to expand on other markets as well. The company is planning to take on bigger smartphone brands like Samsung and Huawei.
The smartphone is called the Vsmart Aris 5G. Though the company claims development is already complete, it has yet to set a release date. The company presented the device in a recent event and confirmed that it would be released first in Vietnam.
A growing smartphone brand
Vsmart smartphones are some of the most popular in Vietnam. In terms of market share, the brand ranks third next to Samsung and Oppo. This is a great development for a local company in a growing smartphone market.
Although the Vsmart smartphones were developed in Vietnam, they did not immediately get widespread attention. In the last five years, the company has faced tough competition from notable international brands.

In the past couple of years, VinSmart realigned its target towards the entry-level smartphone market. The company is known for creating affordable devices that pack high-end hardware and specs. Since then, the company can grow its market share into about 16% of Vietnam’s smartphone market.
In terms of pricing, VinSmart has a very aggressive pricing point. Most of its flagship models are priced around $100 per unit. With Vietnam’s recent economic boom, the country’s middle class has found much wealth.
This growing middle class is what VinSmart is capitalizing on. With their newly found wealth, they can afford an entry-level smartphone at its current price point.
A shift into 5G
VinSmart, with its new Vsmart 5G phone, is one of the first to be released in Southeast Asia. Notable brands like Huawei and Samsung are capitalizing on this as well. With its 5G-capable model and aggressive pricing, VinSmart can grow a commanding lead in terms of share.
In terms of specs, the Vsmart Aris 5G has a 6.39-inch Super AMOLED Full HD+ display. The phone is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 765 chipset with 8GB of memory. In terms of storage capacity, it has a massive 128GB storage space.
The phone has a triple-camera setup with a 48MP, 8MP, and 2MP configuration. The official price of the Vsmart Aris 5G is still not confirmed. About the release schedule, VinSmart promises that it will be soon.
