Makoto Yukimura joins the legions of fans celebrating the news of the coming of Vinland Saga Season 2.
After more than a year, fans are about to see Thorfinn back on the small screen in Vinland Saga Season 2. Now, the manga’s creator himself, Yukimura, shares his thoughts about it.
The Mangaka’s Reaction
The mangaka cannot help but get excited with the anime series’ return and shares his thoughts on Twitter.
“The second season of the anime Vinland Saga is in production,” he says. “I am very happy to be able to convey the news that the fans expected.”
Just like fans, Yukimura admits that he is also looking forward to seeing Vinland Saga Season 2.
“Let’s wait for the follow-up news together,” he ends his tweet.
According to Comicbook, the first season ended with Askeladd murdering the Danish King. The man who killed Thorfinn’s father and acted as his surrogate did this to save his homeland of Wales.
However, Askeladd ended up dying. Knowing he was Thorfinn’s target of revenge, his death just stripped off his chance to avenge his father.
Now Askeladd is gone. So, nobody knows what will happen next in the anime’s second season, knowing it has been the focus of the first season.

The Second Season Announcement
Meanwhile, Twin Engine announced Vinland Saga Season 2 on the second anniversary of the anime series’ airing in Japan.
Shūhei Yabuta will return as the anime’s director and Takahiko Abiru as the character designer, Polygon noted. It also comes with a short trailer featuring some snippets from the second season’s episodes.
The anime series follows the story of Thorfinn, the young Viking explorer who joins Askeladd’s crew to avenge the death of his father.
Although the trailer does not give much away, it seems to show Thorfinn is looking for something more to give meaning to his life.
Revenge may not be the key to make him happy after what happened in the first season.
“Around the end of the millennium, Viking, the mightiest but atrocious tribe, had been outbreaking everywhere,” the first season synopsis reads. “Thorfinn, the son of the greatest warrior, lived his childhood on the battlefield. He was seeking the land of reverie called Vinland. This is the story of a true warrior in an age of turmoil.”
Sentai Filmworks will release the anime’s home video in North America later this year, while Amazon Prime streams it.
Anyhow, there is no official release date or even window on when Vinland Saga Season 2 will be out.
